Hi Michelle.

I hope the funding hasn't been cut, but I won't put it past this lot in power.

A friend is in London this week seeing her surgeon, so for her it seems the funding is still there.

My fear is for the girls in the 'pipeline' who's lives may be in jeapordy if they can't get treatment. I'm still waiting for an appointment and according to my last enquiry on how long the waiting list is, my appointment is due anytime.

These are scary and dangerous times for us and I've taken advice not to self medicate and wait for supervision instead. If the cuts stretch as far as denying us even HRT then I will definitely start to self medicate regardless of the advice. I wonder what the overall increase in the cost to the NHS will be with the problems that will arise if we are denied treatment.

Hi Jenni,

I don't think there is too much risk of anyone being denied treatment. There have been several legal cases which the NHS and PCTs know only too well which have made clear that to deny treatment to someone with a gender dysphoria diagnosis would be an illegal action. What is not illegal is to have a rationed system so that specific budgets are set for particular treamtents and once that money is allocated, others have to wait for a fresh funding round.

In some ways, telling someone their treatment is agreed but cannot yet be funded might seem to amount to the same thing as denying funding but one is an illegal step, the other is legal and perhaps all too likely.

Mel.
