Thought this may be of interest to our members. The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) hosted a conference on the 30th of June this year. This was apparently the first conference of its kind to be held by the RCN, in an article in the RCN journal it was stated that Rachael Ridley was to speak at the conference to address the issues faced by members of the LGBT community. It was a very positive report and reasuringly Rachael states (she herself being transgendered) that she has had the overwhelming support of the RCN but she does recognise that discrimination still exists. It is reported that the aim of the conference was to look at what could be done to support the LGBT community, and also the RCN promoted their input into pride events.
I have initially emailed the RCNs equality and diversity team stating who I am and my desire to assist in this area, sadly no reply has yet been received but I will continue to attempt to make contact, so once I have more information I will of course update the members here on the forum with the hope of raising a discussion and feeding back issues important to us to the group. for now I note there is a link to the RCNs support for pride at.
