Last evening I attended a play in the Bill Naughton studio theatre at the Bolton Octagon. It was put on by the group "Loud & Proud" which in their own words "aims to provide a space for LGBT people to be themselves, make friends and have fun!"
They presented the play "Straight Talk" by Billy Cowan which offers an inverted view of today's world with a society where being gay is normal and one faces difficulties in coming out as straight. It was presented with much enthusiasm and as far as I know was being performed at least twice but both last night only. Although the geographical area and the age range will make it inappropriate for many of us, it seems useful to provide this group with a mention here. Being LGBT in focus, they obviously have involvement with many who may not be trans but transgender people do fall very much within their scope so they may provide important help for some young person browsing our bulletin board.
The group is supported by Bolton Council and NHS Bolton and they meet on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 8 pm. For more information, send a text to 07824 541211 or email to
