"Taurus" is highly recommended and probably my favourite bar / eating house in the Village, which located at the top of Canal St. Nice atmosphere with background music to complement - yes you can a conversation without any problem. Of course excellent reasonably priced food, and very friendly staff.

"Velvet" is also recommended too, this is next to "Taurus" and you go downstairs to the restuarant area once you crossed the glass floor at the bottom of the steps! Again, good food, occasionally the service could be a little quicker but never the less, the staff are friendly. Nice atmosphere again although occasionally the music is a little loud for good conversation. The upstairs "Velvet" bar is a good place to meet and and has a nice ambience about it.

Both are good from my experience as bars. I may have been unlucky but I've found the service and quality of the food to be much more variable in Taurus whereas I've always found it to be excellent in Velvet. Although I've had to shout a few times to pay the bill.
Velvets fine for a chat until about 9:30 when they turn the music up to loud for chatting. Taurus is much better for chatting all night but the drinks are the most expensive in the Village.

I agree Marolyn, I find that the upstairs Velvet bar is much cosier if you just want to talk, and as Kay says has a lovely ambience. Always worth a visit when promenading around the Village ;)

must agree with Giselle and Marolyn on this one.

prefer Velvet of the two. Their mussels (nearly a spelling mistake there! mind was wandering for a moment) are really good but are usually for two.

I was upstairs in Velvet on Saturday night of Sparkle and the atmosphere was just right. Had lunch there on Saturday afternoon and that was nice.

I like Taurus as well. Haven't eaten in there for a while now, mainly because I go in Villagio nearly everytime I want to eat. I don't remember the food being anythong other than good though.

I think we're fairly well off having such a good choice of restaurants that are easy to hand and very pro trans.

for anyone who is new to the village, there are some many places that are more than welcoming.

And don't forget Eden. We had a nice meal in Eden the other Saturday when the group went to see the Ladyboys. Well mine was nice anyway

Two weeks ago, for my first time out with my wife, I chose Taurus to drink and eat at. We were not disappointed. Arriving at just after 4pm on a Saturday we enjoyed a couple of nice bottles of Pinot Grigio at happy hour prices and tucked into a plate of BBQ ribs and humous before moving on to Tribeca and ending up in Naps

The staff were great and looked after us very well. I was the only T girl in there for the most part and would have no hesitation in recommending the venue to anyone.

I have been there before with girlfriends and have never had a bad experience.

I have also eaten at Velvet a number of times and again cannot fault them other than mirroring the other girls comments re the time it takes to settle the bill!
